Leading Payroll

Payroll shouldn’t be a mystery. You deserve clarity, confidence and the peace of mind that every pay run is right.

At Australian Payroll Association, we make payroll feel less like a puzzle and more like a strategic advantage. With the right tools, expert guidance, and deep industry know how, we help you get it right, every single time.

Payroll confidence starts here.

What makes us unique?

Our Leadership team

Tracy Angwin

Tracy has a background working with payroll vendors and payroll professionals and has spent the last 25 years trying to get one to make sense of the other.

Originally a dairy farmer’s daughter, Tracy is a Non Executive Director and one-time dinner date of Boy George. Tracy leads the team at Australian Payroll Association, who prefer her out of the office where she can’t cause havoc and that’s just how she likes it.

Ross Heron

On realising that his dream job of professional football player for Dundee United wasn't going to fit with his immigration plans from Scotland to Australia, payroll was the obvious next step (naturally).

With a strong background in payroll technology and professional services, Ross leads APA as CEO, driving our national service and delivery teams with a focus on excellence, innovation and genuinely great customer experiences.  He’s passionate about raising the bar and occasionally reminding us that if things had gone differently, he’d be on the pitch, not in the boardroom.

Kylie Elliott

In training since she was 5 years old for her dream job as an Amazing Race contestant, Kylie works, talks and eats at high speed. There’s nothing she doesn’t know about our services or our clients. We have to keep telling her to go home and we’re trying hard to find her dark side, but no luck yet. Could be she’s just awesome.

Adrienne Silla

With over 20 years of payroll management experience spanning across some of the largest brands in Australia, Adrienne brings a wealth of stakeholder management and concise judgement to the APA Consulting team. Adrienne’s love of numbers and pay calculations lends a hand to ensure clients receive accurate identification of risks within their payroll.

A lover of chocolate, a mother of 3 and wife...Adrienne enjoys her time taking long walks with her two kelpies and relishing the soccer mum life on weekends.

Louise Missen

Like most payroll professionals, Louise fell into the payroll world many moons ago, almost by mistake. She now has over fifteen years’ experience in Australian payroll, working for a number of great Australian brands in different industries. With all this knowledge Louise now focuses on training and supporting our members and students to grow their payroll knowledge.

Away from the office, Louise can often be found spending time with family and friends. She lives by the quote ‘Anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you’  by Misty Copeland.

Jacqueline Carceller

Jacqueline brings calm, capability, and a touch of creative flair to everything she does. By day, she’s known for her sharp attention to detail and payroll knowledge. By night, you’ll find her curled up with a good book, proving that quiet achievers often run the world.

Her dog, Calvin, self appointed CEO of the household,  keeps operations in check, while her macramé creations add a little handmade charm to her downtime. If there’s a gathering, Jacqueline’s legendary grazing boards could make even a MasterChef contestant weep with envy. She’s proof that precision and creativity can be the perfect match.

Maria Nikoletatos

Maria was APA’s very first employee, and to this day, she’s still the most entertaining. Known affectionately as our resident payroll nerd, Maria has an unmatched passion for getting payroll right. She’s the person who actually enjoys reading payroll legislation in her spare time (yes, really) and her reputation for razor sharp knowledge is legendary.

As one of APA’s most enthusiastic trainers and our living, breathing knowledge base, Maria is the go to for even the trickiest payroll questions. If she doesn’t know the answer… well, no one does.

Beryl

Beryl doesn’t sleep, doesn’t snack, and never takes a sick day, but she does know payroll. Available 24/7, she’s your go-to for fast, friendly, and freakishly accurate payroll answers. Powered by AI and a love for compliance (yes, really), Beryl’s here to make payroll a little easier and a lot less stressful.

Amanda Harrison

Part coach, part counsellor, part cheerleader and all superstar, Amanda is charged with supporting our Certificate IV and Diploma students with anything they need to complete their qualifications.  A lady who just 'gets things done', Amanda celebrates the success of all our students.

Barbara Nunn

Once a student of journalism, Barbara is always eager to put her payroll knowledge onto paper in the form of our blogs. You’ll often hear her cheeky giggle if you are lucky enough to have Barb as a trainer in either our classroom courses or as a trainer for our nationally accredited qualifications. No matter what you are studying, you’ll be kept entertained and on your toes with Barbara in charge.

Tammy Cook

Tammy is on a mission,  and that mission is to get every payroll professional properly qualified. With a laser sharp eye for detail and a passion for learning, she makes sure no payslip is left behind. As mum to three girls, she’s well versed in multitasking and thrives on turning payroll knowledge into real world results. When she’s not championing qualifications, Tammy’s usually plotting her next family adventure (and probably making a checklist for it too).

Our Advisory team

Adrienne Silla

With over 20 years of payroll management experience spanning across some of the largest brands in Australia, Adrienne brings a wealth of stakeholder management and concise judgement to the APA Consulting team. Adrienne’s love of numbers and pay calculations lends a hand to ensure clients receive accurate identification of risks within their payroll.

A lover of chocolate, a mother of 3 and wife...Adrienne enjoys her time taking long walks with her two kelpies and relishing the soccer mum life on weekends.

Andrew Barwick

When Andrew isn't saving Tasmanian wildlife, he's using his vast payroll expertise to diagnose and remediate payroll operations around the country.

Known for his curious nature and unbelievable ability in excel, Andrew has deep payroll expertise in many industries including not for profit, local government, education, hospitality, FMCG and retail.

BJ Boyer

BJ swapped a quiet farming town on New Zealand’s east coast for the Gold Coast’s glitter strip, where his night shifts as a hotel duty manager involved party control, celebrity room service (deep fried only, naturally), and a cheeky spreadsheet or two before sunrise.

After a decade in finance and scaling a start-up hotel group from one to 25 properties, his love of numbers and problem solving led him to payroll, where he built a function and team from the ground up with trademark precision and process smarts.

Off the clock, BJ is torn between Kiwi and Aussie F1 loyalties, attending Black Caps games and endures the heartbreak of being a long time Warriors fan.  He spoils his two needy dogs and plays tennis with more enthusiasm than trophies.

David Xuereb

With a true passion for the payroll industry and extensive experience in the vast technical and legislative requirements of payroll, David spent 13 years as head of payroll at The Marriott Group before bringing his expertise to APA for the benefit of our consulting clients.

A lifelong supporter of the Balmain Tigers, please be gentle with David during the winter months, as his team have likely missed the finals again.

Dale Michelutti

Dale brings energy, enthusiasm and a touch of festive cheer to everything she does, which makes sense, considering she’d happily keep her Christmas tree up all year. When she’s not cheering on the Matilda's or glued to the Olympics, you’ll find her nose-deep in a crime thriller, Converse on her feet (colour coordinated, of course), and her mischievous ginger cat George plotting his next affectionate ambush.

A bookworm on a mission to tick off her annual bingo card of 50 reads, Dale also plays the piano and finds suspicious levels of joy in payroll compliance, because who doesn’t love a good Award interpretation and a perfectly reconciled pay run? Organised, witty and just a little bit Christmassy, she’s living proof that spreadsheets and sparkle absolutely can coexist.

Debbie Sharman

Debbie brings a calm, considered energy to the team,  at least until the footy starts. A book lover at heart, she unwinds with a good read… but any serenity quickly disappears once the AFL, cricket or F1 kicks off. As a devoted sports fan, she’s no stranger to the emotional rollercoaster of a close game or nail biting finish. Whether it’s payroll audits, turning pages or yelling at the TV, Debbie brings passion to everything she does.

Emma-Lee Oliver

With 17 years of payroll experience under her belt, Emma-Lee didn’t plan to land in payroll,  she quite literally fell into it via timesheet administration on the WA mines. Since then, she’s mastered the art of getting people paid (and keeping a straight face when they hand in their timesheets late).

When she’s not solving payroll puzzles, Emma-Lee is wrangling her two energetic boys, stitching up bags and purses, or planning her next Disney adventure. If there’s a mouse involved, she’s probably already packed.

Susan Bull

After initially pursuing a career in hospitality, Susan soon found a passion for payroll and has dedicated the last 20 years across a range of industries, to ensure employees get paid accurately, on time, every time!

In her role, she aims to help clients share in the joy and satisfaction of running an efficient, compliant payroll and to benefit from the rewarding career it offers.

When not at work, she will be reading historical fiction, baking prize winning cakes or exploring our beautiful country in a motorhome.

Michelle Lavis

Born in Corryong, Victoria and raised in Newcastle, Michelle brings a vibrant mix of creativity and drive to everything she does. When she’s not deep in the world of payroll, she’s probably at a music festival, in the garden, or soaking up sunshine at the beach.

A singer and multi instrumentalist (piano and double bass included), Michelle is exploring the world of music production. Her loyal companions,  Onyx the bearded dragon and Smudge the blue tongue lizard,  keep her company at home, while snakes remain firmly on the no go list (thanks to her husband). With a love of live music and a knack for rhythm, Michelle adds a unique beat to the team.

Our Recruitment team

Andy Thompson

As Recruitment Director at Australian Payroll Association, Andy has a knack for connecting the right people with the right opportunities, and making it look effortless. When he’s not matching payroll pros with dream roles, you’ll find him swimming and roaming the Northern Beaches, mountain biking, or working on that ever elusive perfect golf swing.

A cold beer and an All Blacks game is his idea of a spiritual experience (fitting for a Foundation Member of the Church of 7 - for more on that you'll need to ask him). He’s also got more than a few great stories up his sleeve, like that time he unknowingly shared a beer with Robert Plant and scored an invite to the Royal Enclosure at Royal Ascot.

Our Business Services team

Kylie Elliott

In training since she was 5 years old for her dream job as an Amazing Race contestant, Kylie works, talks and eats at high speed. There’s nothing she doesn’t know about our services or our clients. We have to keep telling her to go home and we’re trying hard to find her dark side, but no luck yet. Could be she’s just awesome.

Natali Simonovski

Natali turns chaos into clarity and caffeine into results. As our Digital Transformation Manager, she reimagines clunky systems and outdated processes into streamlined, future ready solutions.

She’s the go to for decoding digital tools, simplifying complexity, and helping us rethink how we work, connect, and grow. She leads with curiosity, solves with creativity, and is quietly annoyed that her best ideas seem to pop into her mind at 2am.

Spreadsheets don’t spark joy in Nat, but give her a Piccolo and a big picture challenge, and she’s in her element.

Jane Karen Chavez

Jane brings four years of marketing know how, a flair for flexibility and a calm energy that makes everything feel just a little more manageable. Passionate about connecting with people and creating meaningful impact, she spends her weekends teaching children and getting involved in church activities. A nature lover at heart, Jane recharges by watching sunsets at the beach, ideally with a good coffee in hand and friends nearby. When she’s not crafting clever marketing, she’s baking pastries and cakes, proving creativity comes in many forms (and sometimes with icing).

Julia Marisse Cunanan

Julia has style, and she uses it as our inhouse designer. While she's not making APA content look A-Class, she's exploring her love for Japanese cuisine and culture, photography (we've never seen anyone take more photos of the Sydney Opera House....), astronomy and travel.

Her skills are as diverse as her cultural interests. If she's not reading a book by Paulo Coelho, she's challenging you to a tournament on a computer game!

Lorraine Bannon

Originally from Ireland, Lorraine brings equal parts warmth, wit and efficiency to everything she does. When she’s not keeping things running smoothly at work events, you’ll find her on a Pilates mat, exploring new foodie finds, or spoiling her beloved dog Neddy. She’s the perfect mix of calm energy and quiet capability,  with a sharp sense of humour that keeps everyone on their toes.

Michele Robertson

Meet Michele, wrangler of accounts and administration around here. With a strict policy of no touching her stapler, Michele brings order to our sometimes chaotic way of working.

Olivia Dela Paz

Olivia’s love of technology started with a curiosity about how systems talk to each other,  and turned into a career in full funnel automation and CRM management. A HubSpot whiz with a cPanel certification, she thrives on process optimisation with the kind of enthusiasm most people reserve for their morning coffee.

When she’s not streamlining workflows or fine tuning integrations, Olivia’s probably freediving in the open sea or boxing away the week’s stress. She freely admits she’s not the best cook, but what she lacks in the kitchen she more than makes up for with calm energy, a sharp eye for detail and a soft spot for dogs.

Reynalyn Gramatica

Before stepping into the world of instructional design, Reynalyn spent her days shaping young minds as a high school teacher,  which explains her gift for turning complex ideas into something clear and engaging. A passionate traveller, she loves immersing herself in different cultures and can usually be found hunting down the best local café wherever she lands.

When she’s not exploring or designing learning experiences, Reynalyn is at home with her two clingy Shih Tzus, armed with a strong coffee (or two… or three). Curious, caffeinated and always ready for the next adventure, she brings warmth and creativity to everything she does.

Shereen Fiedacan

Shereen is the quiet force who keeps everything running like clockwork. As an Executive Assistant by day and an overstimulated mum of two 24/7, she’s perfected the art of calm in chaos. Seven years ago, she discovered working from home was her sweet spot,  where spreadsheets and snack time coexist in perfect harmony.

A former TV producer with a degree in photography, Shereen has travelled the world but somehow avoided being in any of the photos herself. She swears by good playlists, long drives, and getting things done efficiently (and often invisibly). With a photographic memory, a killer backbend, and zero desire for the spotlight, she’s the introvert who makes everything happen at APA.

Rusty

Rusty started his career in HR but quickly crossed over to the bark side. Now a full time Payroll Pawfessor, he’s all about fetching answers to tricky payroll questions and delivering paws-on support to our members and students.

Known for being unusually excited about vet visits (seriously), obsessed with car rides, and unapologetically demanding when it comes to treats, Rusty keeps the team on their toes and their snacks well stocked. Ruff and ready!
